This Video was taken during the testing of the boiler after parts are replaced, namely Fan & Gas valve.
this boiler was Classified as at risk by British Gas due to :
1. PCB not working
2. Fan not working
3. Gas valve not working
4. External pump not working
Once I done further checks about the fan - APS - PCB - it was found that the 240 power is percent at the fan during the ignition sequence. Further checks on the PCB proved that the PCB is in good working condition, and also during the dry test ( with Gas Off) it was noticed that the power to the gas valve is percent and I can hear a good clicking sound of the fan proving the valve is opening and closing.
I replaced the Fan and open the capped gas meter - uncapped it and done a tightness check - guess what - 6mbar pressure drop on U6 meter - shut the boiler gas isolator - retested it no pressure loss. Replaced the gas valve, replaced the pump everything is working.
Need to recommission the boiler - cleaned the burner ( this property was closed for nearly a year and the owner just bought it) adjusted the burner pressure to match with the boiler size, gas rated it - still there is a yellow tip on the flame. Done a combustion analysis - more that satisfactory.
It took a while for the yellow tip on the flame to diminish, I believe its the dirt and dust burning after this boiler was not used for a long time.
When I classified a boiler at risk I give clear details of why - in this case the British Gas Engineer should have written it : Gas valve letting by 6mbar in 2 min., not telling the owner that the boiler need to be replaced and walk away,. That's what they have done. They have classified boiler at risk and gave a list of parts to be replaced and told the owner that they need a new boiler.
The boiler was repaired, and I am writing this after 3 months. Last week the owner called me telling that the heating in not coming on. when I checked it - the Honeywell room thermostat has gone out of calibration. It never make the switch live until the dial is at 30C regardless of the room temperature.
